Developing Modular and Adaptable Courseware Using TeachML
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper presents the use of an XML grammar for two complementary projects--CHAMELEON (Cooperative Hypermedia Adaptive MultimEdia Learning Objects) and EIT (Enabling Informal Teamwork). Areas of applications are modular courseware documents and the collaborative authoring process of didactical units. A number of requirements for a suitable document format are identified. After comparing existing solutions, TeachML, an XML based document format for adaptable courseware documents and reusable didactical units, is introduced. The paper describes how courseware documents can be adapted to the learner's previous knowledge, aims, and infrastructure. Then the process of creating different output documents from a TeachML source is explained. Considerations about the development process of learning material within a professional publishing environment are outlined, leading to the necessity of a virtual repository for storing courseware documents and media assets. Areas of application are modular courseware documents and the collaborative authoring process of didactical units. A number of requirements for a suitable document format will be identified. After comparing existing solutions we introduce TeachML, our XML based document format for adaptable courseware documents and reusable didactical units. We describe how courseware documents can be adapted to the learner' s previous knowledge, aims and infrastructure. Then the process of creating different output documents from a TeachML source will be explained. We continue with considerations about the development process of learning material within a professional publishing environment, leading to the necessity of a virtual repository for storing courseware documents and media assets. Developing and Deploying Software Engineering Courseware in an Adaptable Curriculum Framework
We describe an effort to design an adaptable framework for teaching and learning in software engineering. We are developing a repository of asynchronous, multimedia courseware that facilitates the rapid incorporation of new advances in research and technology, enables courses to be tailored to individual student needs and interests, leverages innovations in educational technology and encourages...
متن کاملMaking Courseware Reusable
In this paper we discuss how the development of reusable courseware can be supported by using modularization and ontologies. We argue that those concepts will enhance the quality of courseware and its cooperative development as well as the degree of its reusability and exchange. An adequate development process is presented, and it is shortly sketched how to use the resulting courseware in a new...
متن کاملModular Development of Multimedia Courseware
The use of multimedia in courseware and web-based learning is a current topic. This is influenced by the wide availability and the permanently improving technical possibilities. The employment of multimedia technology in education makes it possible to illustrate and to grasp complex processes and coherences. However, the development of multimedia content is still a very costly and tedious task....

متن کاملA learners' quanta model based framework towards building dynamic web-based courseware
The courses on web are primarily pre-designed to cater the requirements of a broad base of learners or target groups. However, the target group in web is geographically spread all over the world with varying socio-economical background. If a course is designed to cater a wide spectrum of participants all over the globe, most of the participants would find a lot of redundancy. The present work a...
